Alto of companies I work with for events have recently changed their tactics with clients and instead for the usual dinner and drink have started to move to more of an experience I have some big names doing an 'amazing race' circuit in October to help with engagement but also build the client relationships the need

I found that team members, especially employees, often need more from their organization to stay motivated. A lot of successful companies have mission or philosophies that appear in employee's "DNA", so to speak.

For example, it's evident when you meet Disney crew members (not employees, here, "Crew" ) or Ritz-Carlton, their company's values are so in accord with people employed there.

Eventually, these strong sense of mission build the foundation for building great teams for organizations.

Good working environment and employee empowerment are good ways to keep more employees than not. But, at the end of the day, there is only one sure-fire way to keep the employee from leaving - you have to compensate them at market value. If you can't afford that, then you are going to lose employees - it's that simple....

Send out Powerpoints before hand. Let your team familiarize themselves with the topics. Go over the broad topics for the first half, then open up the second half to questions - you'll find that Q & A often covers the "meat" of topics that you might have droned on needlessly about before.

I think this is really a solid approach. Psychological studies have shown that the average person cannot stay captivated on a single subject for more than 45 minutes without a break - so your 30 minute meetings would ...

That's a tough issue. Ultimately, anything long term concept that is going to prevent your employees from maximizing revenue will NOT work. It's pointless and should just be scrapped.

But in situations like this, it's best to sell the employees on short term sacrifice for long term gains. They may not be able to devote enough time to salary maximization now, but their team efforts will improve the company which will maximize ITS revenues and thus lead to greater employee payouts in the future.

I'd ...

Sometimes there is something to be said for turnover. Even the best teams can get complacent after a while. New blood can shake things up as well as bring in new ideas. You don't want to break up a team that functions well together - but if everybody is getting demotivated, it obviously isn't functioning well together.

I'm not implying that employees should be scared for their jobs (although that is a strategy that some managers take), only that change can be good every once in a while....

Building a business team is the same as building a sports team. First, and maybe most important, you have to assemble the best roster possible - put together the pieces so that the whole is greater than the sum of the parts. After that, you have to practice practice practice. Teamwork isn't an inherent skill, it is learned through repetition and built trust. When your people trust each other to get the job done - you have a TEAM....
